Jack stories:
Jack has a pair of black croc like shoes, he loves these. They were missing for a whole day. This morning Pete finds one of them on top of the mailboxes downstairs. This afternoon Pete came home for lunch, he and Jack are on our patio, Jack is wearing blue sandals, and tells Pete he wants to throw them off the patio like he did with his black shoes. Hmmm....... Pete goes outside and looks in the bushes beneath our apartment- he finds the other missing black shoe.
Jack was on the patio with Pete as he was grilling beer brats. I decided to change Jack's diaper while he was on the patio. Apparently I left the diaper on the balcony. Jack threw his dirty diaper off the side. Pete had to go get it off the sidewalk.
Today we went walking to the basketball court in our apartment complex. A man came out to shoot some hoops. Jack stood there watching. He then began to do commentary: He made it! Oh, Almost! He made it! Almost!! After this I decided we should probably go.
After attending aerobics for about three months now-- I felt the need to show off my talents to my husband. I showed him how I could now do a push-up ( a girl version) this is still a big deal because ever since he has known me I couldn't even do that. I also impressed him with my many ab exercises, even mastering ones he told me were really hard. Pshhh, not for an aerobics queen like me. Bring it on!
The following is not in any way meant to offend anyone. I am just surprised with how many people in the last few weeks have had questions about my son's name - his Christian name is John.
John-Jack ( John, a 1-syllable boy's name of Hebrew origin, means: The Lord is gracious; gift of God)
The most common type of nickname is the Diminutive, usually a shortened or otherwise altered version of one’s true name, such as Jim for James, Jack for John, Ted for Theodore or Betty for Elizabeth.
One of the most famous bearers of this name, John F. Kennedy, was known to friends and family as "Jack." John is a name with history stretching back far into Biblical times. However, during medieval times, the name John was altered slightly in the Germanic tongues to Jankin or Jackin. Out of that, we get the nickname Jack. (if you doubt google)
Etymologically, Jonathan is not a variation of John, but a longer version of Nathan. (Again, google if you have doubts)
As a wife, a mother of 5 kids, 1 dog, and 1 cat I am constantly amazed that we are all still alive, somewhat thriving, and not just eating out of the garbage or chasing our tails, so these are the stories that make up my life gone crazy.

Spring Fest and other happenings
Wow I have been blogging a ton lately. Is it even interesting? Probably not, but I enjoy it. We went to Spring Fest on Saturday and had a blast! We parked in the same garage we use for church so Jack kept saying : No Church! No Church! Our first stop was to get on the BoilerMaker Special. This took us to the Aviation School where we got to see numerous planes and a helicopter take off!! Jack's favorite was the helicopter because :helicopter made wind blow really really hard. Jack's hat come off. Here are a couple pictures of us with the planes.
Then we got back on the BoilerMaker Special to head to the main part of campus. Jack was already having the best day of his life. A train and airplanes!! Here is a picture of the three of us riding on the train.
Back at school I had it all planned out as far as seeing bugs and looking at animals, but then we stumbled upon this.
People who know my son well, know this is what life is all about! After playing on the tractors we had one painted on his face!
I can't imagine a more perfect day for little stinky even if I tried!
A few other notes of interest around here:
-Pete was picked by the graduate chair to teach the analysis bridge course to grad. students preparing to take their qualifying exams. (He actually got to pick between analysis and algebra). Pete may downplay it, but apparently people notice his smarts, and I am quite proud!
-Pete will have a very busy summer preparing for his Advanced Topics. He takes this in August. Once he is done with that then he and his adviser can start coming up with his thesis problem!
- My happenings are not near as interesting but here they are: I am working out 6 days a week and I like beer now! haha. I guess I need to work out if I am going to start drinking beer. Oh and I am going to be an aunt! My (our) first niece or nephew is due in October!

Bits from our day
First, here are some things Jack has been saying lately.
-When standing on his step stool he looks in the mirror and says, "Lookin' Good Jack!"
-He makes up words like - side-o, dido, jack-ho, mot-o, nutt-o, and etc. He thinks this is so funny. (He also thinks sour cream is a made up word.)
- We saw two men on bikes today stopped and talking to each other. Jack informed us they were talking about eating hots.
Today was a beautiful day. Pete told me it was the best day, weather wise, in history. I don't know if it was that awesome, but it was pretty close. We met our friends today for a picnic at a local park. We had so much fun!! The collage is of all that fun. We decided it was so nice outside that we should take Tigran to the park. Jack loved seeing Tigran swim in the river. His favorite part was when Tigran dried himself off right next to him. We also stopped for a Polar Pop at Circle K. I am trying to cut down on my cokes, but really who can say no to a Polar Pop on a nice day? Apparently no one in town, on nice days the line at Circle K wraps around the inside of the store, and every single person has a Polar Pop.
Tomorrow we will be attending Spring Fest. We have seen tents all around campus, but didn't fully realize what they were for until we spoke to Heather. After looking online I thought this was something we would all enjoy. I am very excited.
One last note, we have two bumper stickers on our car. One is an Obama '08 sticker and the other is a Mother Teresa quote reading, " It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish." During the election I was at first quick to announce my backing of Obama, but after more and more time learning about his views on FOCA I did have a hard time putting my complete support behind him. I did vote for him even though I follow the Catholic line on life because I was very concerned about other matters. I often look at our car and wonder what people say to themselves when they see our bumper stickers. I worry that the people at church might confront us and tell us we are evil. ( Until I saw a bumper sticker saying: Ordain women or stop baptizing them. ) I always feel a bit odd when conservative minded people and liberals see our car. No one has ever said anything until yesterday. I was putting Jack in the car after going to the store. A woman with two children looks at me and tells me my bumper stickers are contradictory. I am glad I had my sunglasses on because otherwise she would have seem me moving my eyes back and forth trying so hard to think of something pithy or intellectual to say. Instead, after a few moments, I just say," Uh, yeah they are." She says, "Well, at least you think for yourself." This is true. I would say in this house that is one thing that is very very true- we think for ourselves. I am extremely grateful for that.

Happy Birthday Pete
Pete's birthday was Monday. The first picture is of Jack and I waiting outside for daddy to get back from school so we could go to dinner. Dinner that evening was B-Dubs ( that was for you Danny) and it was yummy. Jack was too funny there. [We make hot dogs and macaroni for lunch once a week and we call them hots and macs. ] When we get there Jack immediately tells the waiter- Jack wants hots. Jack wants hots. He kept repeating this until the waiter left. He is so funny- how did he even know how to tell that guy what he wanted? After dinner we came back for brownies. I wanted to make some type of homemade cake thing, but Pete wanted brownies with icing so that is what we had. Jack was a big helper and poured everything into the bowl and even sprayed the bottom of the pan. Unfortunately Pete had to go back to school right after that to study. He is such a hard worker and we love him very much!
Happy Birthday Pete and thank you for everything you do for us!!

walking in the sun
Today Jack and I walked to campus, Pete had the car, and on the way there people constantly stopped us to tell Jack how nice he looked. So I figured I would take some pictures and show you all how nice my son looked today. He picked the pants and shoes while I picked the shirt and hat. I think we did ok.
Pete's birthday is Monday and we have definite plans for Wednesday and probably plans for Tuesday so I will be able to share some more pictures then. Hope everyone is enjoying the spring weather and the great basketball---even though UofL isn't in it.
